my quiet time {summer blessing giveaway!}

My quiet time is really important to me. As a homeschooling mama, I like having the quiet of the morning to get myself ready for dealing with the day and any attitudes one of my five children may bring with them when they walk down the stairs for breakfast. I don’t have a consistent “how” in the way that I enjoy my quiet time, but there is always a cup of coffee involved! I’ve been asked in the past if Greg and I study the Bible together. The answer is– yes and no. We study individually, but at some point during the day usually discuss what we are learning. It is very edifying to hear what the Spirit is teaching my husband through his own time in the Word!

As of late, I have been enjoying the Scripture writing challenge from Heidi St. John’s blog, “No More Perfect Kids” by Jill Savage, The Armor of God study by Priscilla Shirer, reading the corresponding Proverbs with the day, and reading through Nehemiah as our Pastor preaches on it for the month of July. I like to journal my prayers as well. It helps keep me focused on who I am praying for and also to be specific. I have some notecards with my husband and childrens’ names on them, along with scripture I am praying over them for the year. After reading The Circle Maker, I have been challenged to pray big! Writing out my specific prayers also helps me to go back and see how God answered my prayer! You can find more of the books I add into my quiet time on my recommended reading page!

Why spend time in the Word? Because I know the enemy is real and on the prowl. Having a quiet time doesn’t make me perfect. If you’ve been here for sometime, you know I like to keep it real, so here I go: Some days, it feels like I’m just checking the box off. It isn’t always an amazing encounter with God or a divine revelation. Other times it is exactly that! The Holy Spirit will remind of promises I’ve been given, or I’ll just have an “ah-ha!” moment when reading scripture.

On the occasional morning, I don’t get this time in before the children get up, and I can definitely tell a difference in my attitude! However, I know the importance of God’s word in my life. I don’t think I will ever feel like I’ve arrived spiritually, but I will press into the truth of God’s word. It certainly convicts, encourages, challenges, changes, and renews me.

This is a little glimmer into my quiet time.
